Seven kites

Long ago, way before PS4 or devices were invented there was small pa at the bottom of Te Mata Peak with  a whanau of 7 little sisters. Day by day Ururangi, one of the seven sisters, could see the totaras trees on the dewy jade grass, swaying from the wind, Tawhirimatea  gust. She  could hear the cheeping of the keuru birds perching on totara trees.  She smelt juicy kie cooking in the whares. Ururangi felt ferns hanging from the bushes. She felt her heart beating for a very special day: Matariki! Today was Ururangi’s 1st time building her own kite. All 7 sisters gathered together, sitting down on a mat made out of flax, with their tools ready to design their kites.  Sister number 1 built her kite out of green paper mulberry and the eyes of tuatua shells. The wisest little sister created her kite out of orange reed and the eyes of mussel shells. Another sister crafted her kite out of pink manuka and the eyes of scallop shells. A beautiful kite made of  pink manuka kite with eyes of scallop shells was designed by the prettiest little sister. The fourth little sister constructed a red feather kite with eyes of pipi shells. A kite made of blue fish skin kite with eyes of whelk shells was designed by the playful sister. Lastly the sixth little sister built her kite out of white grass plumed kite with eyes of periwinkle shells. But Ururangi made a very special kite of many-rainbow kite with the eyes of paua shells. So the 7 sisters set of to the shallow beach. They got ready to fly their kites and admired how high their kites would except Ururangi. They were waiting for Tawhirimatea to blow his wind. Frustrated, they stomped to grandfather totara and hung there kites on his long, thick branches. The moon slowly rises and passes to night. The seven sisters fell asleep. Soon at dawn Tawhirimatea blew his wind. He cried “Wake up, Wake up” But no one awoke. Wind started to blow and the kites tried to escape. In Ururangi’s dream, she wondered why the kites wanted to escape grandfather totara. The girls awoke and saw the kites drift into the distance. One of the seven sisters cried out wanting her kite back. All the kites were together but Ururangi’s kite wasn’t there. “Where’s my kite” screamed Ururangi. The eldest sister calmed her down saying: the kites would turn into beautiful glowing stars. The kites looked like 6 beautiful stars in the night sky. The 6 sisters smelt kai and ran down to the village but Ururangi stayed behind. Joyfully she looked at the beautiful stars. She was the first to see the matariki stars.
Something that challenged me was adding detail so the reader would enjoy what they were reading. I am
proud of fixing my mistakes to make it my personal best. Today in writing I used refining muscle to go to my learning change my mistakes to quality learning. I am learning to use my perseverance muscle I used this muscle in writing to get help so we could fix the promblems that were made. The learning muscle I used to get out of the learning pit was my refining muscle to build on detail.

My art

I am learning about blending the colors and coloring the oil pastels dark to light colors. Something that challenged me was filling in the white spaces and making the front  of the page look  thick. I am proud of blending the oil pastels to each other because it was mostly my goal to blend in the colors together.  Next time I am going to make the pictures in the distance a bit more smaller.

About me

 Me

I like reading, reading is one thing I like to do when I'm: bored, sick, worn out, and wanting something to do.
I like reading because I always feel I'm in another world. I feel like it is quiet, even when around somewhere very noisy. Some of things that get lost when I start reading is: Billionaire boy, cook books, The Smugglers cave, Diary of a wimpy kid books and Mr stink. My favourite sport  is netball. I mostly did it in Onekawa School where I always try my best. I moved away from Onekawa School so I chose to move to Parkvale School . I learn a lot and have lots of fun learning with my teachers Mrs Ramsay Mrs Hill and Miss Jackett. I never want to move away from my lovely School. I have lots friends and I would like it to stay that way. My favourite learning experience is blog posts and reading. I am international licence because I can manage my own learning. I always have my learning  tools ready for all learning. I always make responsible choices about where and who to work with. I see mistakes as a chance to learn and try new strategies to help my learning. I know what to do and how to do it. I strive to always complete learning to my personal Best. International licence gives me to go into backrooms, Work on the deck, and go to the library but only ask if I have anything to do before I go.

I am poem

I am a reader

I am a reader
I wonder the best ways to complete my learning to my personal best
I hear the attractive sentences in books
I see the challenge I try to complete
I want things to be my personal best at all times
I am a reader
I pretend I am inside the story when I read
I feel safe in bed
I touch my favourite book at home when I am bored
I worry the things that are hard, will get harder
I cry when I am lost
I am a reader
I understand when someone explains things when I am confused
I say what has happened after an event to my mum
I dream of good things that might happen in the morning
I try my best at netball
I hope I get better at netball
I am a reader

I have been working on my I am poem. Something that challenged me is making it interesting so the reader will enjoy the poem. I am proud of  completing my goal, sharing whats inside myself, because most of my I am poem was confusing to complete. We use describing words to make detail and a picture in the persons mind. These are some of my I am poem sentences that I found hard to write that I completed:
I pretend I am inside the story when I read
I worry the things that are hard, will get harder
I understand when someone explains things when I am confused

The Mysterious Animal

I have been learning to use detail in my writing. We use detail to hook the reader and make a picture in their mind. Something that challenged me was to write the beginning to hook the reader in and how I changed all the said's to some other words. I am proud of achieving my goal:detail. Next time I am going to use the thesaurus more.
Here are some details I added:
I stroked the tail it was very delicate
Carefully  I picked her up ,excited to be looking after a little kitten.
I was extremely happy that Ginger was OK. I nearly cried with joy.

Bang Bang Bang! The ceiling shook. What was that horrible sound? The noise got louder and louder as I waited for it to stop. Finally I opened the door. It was gone. I must of scared it away. Quietly I shutted the door  as a little squeal came from the garden. Slowly I turned around and saw a tail hanging out from a large bush. The tail was peach. I stroked the tail it was very delicate. Was it lost or was it playing? The animal squealed again. Swiftly I pushed the bushes back . There was a mini kitten squealing. Carefully  I picked her up ,excited to be looking after a little kitten. But why was she squealing? The kitten turned around. I spotted the thorn in the kitten’s foot. Carefully I pulled the thorn out of her foot. She looked at me with fright. She was so scared that her eyes started sinking with a few tears. I catched(caught)  them with my palm.” You don’t have to cry” I whispered to the kitten.”I’ll look after you.” I looked at her collar. It almost had all the information I needed to know.

                                                             Collar
                                            Name Ginger
                                                        Gender Girl
                                                        Adress ?
                                                       Phone no. ?

The only missing part of the information was the Address and phone no. I looked at Ginger confused. “ How will I take you home.”I crept inside. What will mum do with the kitten if I showed it to her? I was nearly there in my room until mum heard a bulky footstep, stomp! I tried to hide Ginger, but mum came in before I could do anything. She looked at my my hands…
What would she do next? I closed my eyes. Instead of a scream she stayed still for a while. I left the room. That night I was worried sick. My heart was beating. I wanted to cry. Before I went to bed I looked at Ginger. Will Ginger be safe?

In the morning I found out my answer. No! A huge amount of men came into the house. They took Ginger’s food, her food bowl, including her bed. What was happening and what has mum done?  Where was Ginger? That was my main question now. She wasn’t under my bed nor mum’s. I was about to peek in the garden until I heard a squeal from the top room. I ran into the house upstairs. I started looking under boxes and on shelves. Finally I found her burrowing under a large hat. She was dusty and cold. Slowly I walked down stairs. The men had  all of Ginger’s stuff now they were looking for Ginger. I crept downstairs holding Ginger behind my back.  Suddenly a man stared at me. I looked shocked. He started asking questions about Ginger: Where is your cat? What food does she like? Where did you get her? I answered none. I ran outside. How scared Ginger must been. She jumped from my hands...and started to run.  That was the end of Ginger. The next night  I creeped out from my bed and tiptoed  out to find Ginger. I went out into  the night. I  heard howling and more mysterious noises. I looked everywhere up trees across bridges through caves. In one deep dark cave I saw Ginger lying down on the ground. Her heart beating was just enough. I ran home with Ginger tightly in my hands. Quietly I walked to the kitchen. The men had took all her food. I remembered that I placed some cat food in under my bed. I fed Ginger the perfect amount of food to keep her alive. She opened her eyes a tiny bit. I was 100% sure that she was alive enough to run a whole lap. I fell asleep saying to myself, Ginger is alive, Ginger is alive. In the morning luckily Ginger was alive. She was licking me to get her attention.  I was extremely happy that Ginger was OK. I nearly cried with joy. I was so happy stroked Ginger, went to the market to buy more cat things, and fed her cat food. Mum didn’t notice Ginger at all, she didn’t call the men when she saw all the cat food in the cupboard, she didn’t throw her food bowl away when she saw it on the floor, and she didn’t  make a fuss when she saw her bed. That meant that me and Ginger were free to play at home.

Camp Omatua

" I hope you have fun tubing Ellazay. "
" Yummy Yummy desert I wish I had this every night. "
" Yummy fizzy I don't need my drink bottle anymore. "
" Me and Mrs Ramsay are getting tied up on all this fitness. "

At camp I tried something new: Tubing. I was not sure what your supposed to do so felt a bit scared, just in case the river was a bit too fast and I was touched by an eel.  Carefully  I walked into the shallow water hoping there was no eel about, but when  I started rocking down the stream I did not feel a eel or see an eel.  Tubing  is fun because you get to float down the stream.  When I got close to the tree Mrs Hill gave me a push so I didn't bang into the tree.

Something I found fun was playing twisters with Mrs Ramsay. Daniel twisted the arrow and said where had to place our hands and our feet. It was tricky to stay up. Our hands got twisted below our legs. Just as Mrs Ramsay was getting twisted up Daniel, Ben D dad pushed Mrs Ramsay over and I thought that did not count. Daniel said I won but I thought no one won because someone pushed Mrs Ramsay.

Making desert was the same amount of fun as eating desert. Some people made 2 like me. I wanted to make one for Kristy but she already had a desert  so I gave mine to Mrs Ramsay. We scooped in muffin mix into orange skin and placed another piece of orange skin on top like a real orange except that it had muffin mix inside. When it came out inside it looked liked pieces of cake with ice-cream. On night one we had cut out the core of an apple and scooped some chocolate chips and other sweets into the middle of the apple. After it was cooked it was a bit soft at the bottom. I dropped the apple in the pig bucket because I didn't like the bottom but I liked the pouring melting chocolate.

Fear Factor was very frightening at first until I heard that the description was fake. I was told to drink    wee-wee I held my drink-bottle ready to drink something gross until I started drinking sprite. Yum, yum, yum just then I did not drink from my drink-bottle. I loved sprite!!! Next challenge we all did together. Mrs Hill placed something in my hand it felt all broken. I had one bite. It was a  piece of wheat-bix. Behind sprite  I loved wheat-bits even on its own. Yum, yum, yum I like this kind of  Fear Factor.

My Nail Art

The First step we did was that you had to do the planning. We folded the piece of paper into the number of letters that we have in our names. If had to many letters in your name use your nick name. If didn't have a nickname use the letters of your name. Next you painted a piece of wood. After that you stick your letters onto the piece of wood. Then you start hammering nails. When your done hammering you wrap some wool around the nail. What challenged was keeping  the nails straight because it kept on banging each way. I'm proud of that turned out like I was planning to do. Make sure it turns out prime like mine up there on the picture.
